Fehu Rune - Elder Futhark Alphabet

Fehu

AKA: Feoh, Feh, Fe, Frey
Pronunciation: ‘Fey-who’
Letter: F

The first rune of the Elder Futhark alphabet is directly connected to wealth and materialistic possessions. The original connection was to cattle, and the rune implies that wealth and success are obtained through hard work and labour.

Cattle are not easy to tend to, they require a considerable amount of time and effort. Like most things in life, the harder you work the more comfortable your existence will be. It can therefore be interpreted that Fehu symbolises financial gain achieved against the odds - through hard work, persistence and dedication.

Fehu Reversed

"it signifies loss, restriction or delays"

Where Fehu upright implies gain being achieved against the odds, Fehu reversed signifies being overcome by the odds, the struggle. It signifies loss, restriction or delays.

The reversed effect always has a negative tone, usually the opposite of the positive. In this case it can represent a loss of wealth, the experience of frustration, disappointment or the idea that you should abandon your endeavours.

Notes from the Shaman

"the success comes from your own hard work and dedication"

I've been researching the runes for a little while now, and I think there’s an effective method of using them for modern day - more specifically, for goal setting and focus.

In the case of Fehu you start with a financial goal and draw upright (or draw reversed for a financial struggle), then place it close to you as a visual aid. I personally use stickers, which I place somewhere I know that I'll be looking at them on a regular basis. The rune will be used as a constant reminder, a little nudge to push you to work hard on your goals.

I don't personally believe that the runes are ‘magic’ nor will they do the work for you, the success comes from your own hard work and dedication, which will ultimately pay off in your favour.
