Ansuz Rune Meaning

ANSUZ

AKA: Ansur, As, Ancestral God, Mouth
How to pronounce Ansuz: ‘An-sooz’
Letter: A

Ansuz is, simply, the rune of communication in all forms, but especially verbal. Ansuz has a strong connection to the mouth, as the ancient Germanic tribes had a strong tradition of passing their wisdom and knowledge to the next generation through their words.

In addition to knowledge and Wisdom passed down through generations, this rune is also concerned with divine wisdom and communication with the higher planes. As such, this rune holds a strong connection to the gods, especially Odin (the god of wisdom).

With a strong connection to the gods this rune points at a capacity for strong spiritual growth and an openness to new insights. It can also be regarded as inspirational. It represents good advice, which we gain through the older generations gained through a longer time spent in the world passed down to us to pass down to future generations.

ANSUZ REVERSED

"be on guard for trickery and deceit in communication"

If Ansuz represents good advice, Reversed Ansuz represents bad advice, and is thus associated with the trickster God Loki. This rune warns you to be on guard for trickery and deceit in communication, bad advice and manipulation. It is a warning to avoid following advice unthinkingly to a point where you are unable to make clear decisions.

It is also associated with bad communication or a lack of confidence in your own voice, and should be used as a reminder to work on your own communication skills.

NOTES FROM THE SHAMAN

"I recommend investing in a Mjolnir pendant. I personally wear one every day"

Drawing Ansuz can be a good way to remind yourself to dedicate time to your own spiritual growth, and it can remind you to seek advice from your elders and those with Wisdom to steer you on the right path. It can also serve as a reminder to pass on good advice and practice effective communication in all forms, whether it's verbal, written, singing etc.

Reverse Ansuz can be drawn in those times where you are unconfident in your communication or your connection with the divine.

For me this manifests in research and reading, as when I am unconfident in my communication I often find that its an issue with my own self confidence or that I am lacking in knowledge.

Using this rune as a reminder to dedicate time to self improvement in these areas may be a way to bring yourself out of the rut you find yourself stuck in. This can predominantly help in your own relationships, especially romantic.

Poor communication can dramatically affect the quality and longevity of a romantic relationship, and as such dedicating time to improving this may just be a saving grace.
